Lets make illegal logging illegal!
Unbelievably, there are no laws in place that outlaw the importation of illegal timber into Europe - an illegal trade worth €3 billion a year.
And within Europe, WWF estimates that the UK is the largest importer of illegal timber - consuming an area the size of Devon every year.
Trees from the most precious forests on Earth - the Amazon, Congo Basin, and Indonesia - are being turned into our garden furniture, wooden floors and even toilet paper.
Forests are vast storehouses of biological diversity.
Home to two-thirds of all terrestrial species, forests harbour some of our most endangered animals, from gorillas in the Congo to orang-utans in Borneo.
Providing us with fresh water and a host of other natural resources, forests even regulate temperatures and weather patterns around the world. Some 60 million indigenous people depend on them for their survival.
Half the Earth’s original forest cover has already been lost forever.
And an area half the size of the UK is being destroyed each and every year.
Stopping the tidal wave of illegal timber that floods into Europe, and the UK, is a vital step towards saving our forests.
