Wednesday 23rd May 6.30pm – 8.30pm, Salvation Army, Ashley Road.
“Following a number of recent robberies in the Stokes Croft and
Montpelier areas and in response to requests from Montpelier residents
to address some ongoing issues in the neighbourhood, a meeting has been
scheduled for Wednesday 23rd May 2012 between 6.30pm and 8.30pm at the
Salvation Army on Ashley Road.
This meeting will be about anti-social behaviour, waste, street
cleansing, dog mess, substance abuse and crime problems that are
impacting in Montpelier. The recent robberies will be the focus of this
meeting, but within the context of these other issues.
Also, some residents are in the process of putting together a Montpelier
Residents’ Association to feed these and other issues into the Ashley
Neighbourhood Forum. The meeting will provide an opportunity to explore
this idea, get involved and support the development of this group.
If these issues are important to you, please come along and have your say.
Please also share this with anyone who lives in or around Montpelier.
Kind Regards,
Richard Orna

Bristol asked for inspiration as Big Green Week tickets go on sale and fun-filled programme is launched
From Brunel to Banksy, Beryl Cook to Blackbeard, Bristol’s past and present is bursting with big names that have inspired millions. And now, to coincide with the launch of its inspirational programme, Bristol’s Big Green Week wants to know what inspires the people of Bristol today and how the city can inspire the next generation of great green ideas.
The International festival of environmental ideas, art and culture takes place from 9th-17th June citywide. Venues include The Colston Hall, The Watershed, The Arnolfini, M-Shed, and the mysterious Nowhere Island Embassy.
Tickets are available from tomorrow (25th April) and can be found, with the full programme at www.biggreenweek.com. Speakers include Vivienne Westwood, Deborah Meaden, Kevin McCloud and Caroline Lucas MP, as well as Bristol’s Biggest Bike Ride, the Festival of Nature, Bristol’s biggest market, and the transformation of Park Street into a venue for the first ever electric bike world championship. Some events will sell out fast, so booking early is recommended
Paul Rainger, of Forum for the Future, one of the co-organisers of the week in partnership with Bristol Green Capital, said: “Bristol is an inspirational place with a reputation for innovation and creativity. We’ve worked hard to create an amazing programme of speakers and events to inspire you.”
Bristolians can log on to the Big Green Week Facebook page and post comments, stories, or pictures about what inspires them. Entrants have the chance to win a Green Festival Pass, giving them discounted entry to many of the week’s events.
The week is being supported by Bristol City Council. Council leader, Barbara Janke, said: “Big Green Week is a fantastic (more…)
32 Bristol organisations have agreed to participate in this year’s ‘Get Growing Garden Trail’ – an open gardens weekend which will be held over 9th & 10th June.
The groups include many of the city farms in Bristol, some allotment associations and many local growing groups and projects, and even workers from a city centre business who tend an area of ground over their lunch hour. Each will be opening at different times over the weekend and showcasing their work. Members of the public – keen gardeners or otherwise – are invited to go along and see what the groups get up to!
The event is organised by the Bristol Food Network, a group dedicated to making Bristol a sustainable food city. Steering Group member Jane Stevenson said:
“We are delighted to be able to run the second ever Bristol Get Growing Garden Trail. We hope many people take the opportunity to visit the fantastic food projects up and down the city, see what they get up to, and maybe help them out.”
One of the participants is Cat Jameson from Bramble Farm Bristol, Community Smallholding. She said
“Last year’s event was so successful that this year we’re opening the gates for two days! We are proud of what we’ve achieved as a community, reclaiming wasteland to grow quality food for our families. We’d like to invite people in to share our farm for the weekend, offering activities for adults and children as well as general advice on urban smallholding. The Get Growing Garden Weekend is a chance for us to celebrate our achievements, share our farming knowledge, raise funds for the farm from plant and food sales, but above all else, have fun!”
The Bristol Food Network has produced a leaflet which will be available at venues across the city in the weeks leading up to the trail. The trail guide gives details of locations and opening times for all the participating organisations and can be downloaded now from the Bristol Food Network website http://www.bristolfoodnetwork.org/2012/03/29/get-growing-trail-9-10-june-2012/
