Historically, the body has been separated from spirituality. This talk looks at how connecting to our physicality can actually deepen our spiritual practice.

About the speaker:
US-born Katheryn Trenshaw, received her BA degree from Michigan State University and L’Universite Haute Bretagne, France. Her art work – watercolour painting, print-making and ceramic sculpture – has been exhibited in the US and Europe.

Her touring exhibition, Breaking the Silence, depicted the traumatic effects of sexual abuse and the subsequent struggle towards healing through 100 raku masks.

The resulting publicity catapulted Katheryn Trenshaw onto the international lecture and workshop circuit. In the mid-nineties, she moved from the US to the UK, where she has created a vast body of work entitled The Wisdom of the Stones, a combination of delicate watercolours and raku-fired sculptures of her day-dream visions while visiting megalithic sacred sites in England.

For Katheryn Trenshaw, art is a vehicle for the soul’s expression. Her continuous commitment to personal growth through living her life as art enables the creations to come from a deep, integral place. She teaches on art, therapeutic creativity and women’s issues.

A forest garden is a three teared edible landscape consisting of  fruit and nut trees, soft fruit shrubs and perennial vegetables.

The sixth St Werburghs Arts Trail will be the largest yet with over 70 artists in a variety of community and outdoor venues, as well as private homes. For the first time the Trail also incorporates creative sport and games, including a passport stamp as you visit each area, which then gains you entry for our raffle. As usual there will be tea and cake in various venues, things for children to enjoy, and live music events. The trail will include sculpture, photography, painting, jewellery, ceramics, woodcraft and children’s art. Artwork will be on display in St Werburghs Community Centre, pubs and local shops, the City Farm and Boiling Wells sites, Mina Road Park and Ashley Vale Allotments. At the latter site there will also be a vegetable fair and weather permitting there will be an outdoor cinema in Mina Road Park.

You will also be able to enjoy music in the Community Centre during the weekend with The Gurt Lush Choir and The Ukons, a ukulele group, and a string quartet playing in the railway tunnel to make use of the interesting acoustics there.

This year with funding from Quartet and working with other community groups we will be providing other exciting events at the community centre. Children and young people of Khaas have been working with a local artist, using new and recycled textiles to create beautiful and useful objects. Come along and see the products, buy a few of their wares or try out the free workshop for yourself with the young people helping you along. Also Awaz Utaoh joins the St Werburghs Arts Trail 2011 bringing a mini cultural festival to the St Werburghs Community Centre on Sunday 25th September. There will be Bollywood dancing workshops to get jiggy to, sari wrapping, the beauty of henna, interactive Asian cooking demonstrations and a display of artwork created by the group. In addition, a group of teenagers from St Matthias will exhibit work and make use of an advertising billboard to express the theme of ‘Identity’. Through out the weekend there will be Hot air balloon workshop at the Boiling Wells site. Come along and decorate small hot air balloon models. The finished models will be attached to ribbon/string as decoration for the city farm. See brochure for more details.

Brochures will be available in local shops and pubs, as well as selected galleries, cafes and venues around Bristol. Look out for the tea towel flags (and buy one to take home as a souvenir) outside each venue and signs to the more out of the way locations over the weekend. Entry to all venues is free.
