Dear Supporter,

Happy New Year and thank you once again for all your support for the Stop Bristol Bristol Airport Expansion campaign in 2006. 2007 starts with the good news that well over 3000 people sent in objections to North Somerset Council’s public consultation.

The New Year also brings us immediately to another another crucial point in the campaign: not one, but two vital meetings of North Somerset Council next week on Tuesday 16th and Thursday 18th January. On the 18th a final decision will be taken on the airport’s Master Plan. North Somerset Council will be discussing whether to uphold the recommendation, made on 20 December at their Strategic Planning and Economic Development (SPED) panel, that BIA’s expansion should not go ahead until full and independent studies into the environmental, economic and surface access impacts of the expansion have been undertaken, and only then if those studies show that economic benefits outweigh the considerable environmental costs.

So once again, we’re making a request for your active support by asking, if you can, to attend one or both of these meetings. We’d like to make sure that once again NSC councillors realise the strength of feeling against the airport’s expansion. And if you live in North Somerset, you could also speak to put across your own personal views at one of the meetings.

So please join us on:
16 January Full Council Meeting 6pm, Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare
18 January Planning & Regulatory Meeting 2.30pm, Town Hall,
Weston-super-Mare

IF YOU ARE A NORTH SOMERSET RESIDENT AND WISH TO SPEAK AT ONE OF THESE MEETINGS:
You will be limited to 3 minutes to make your points and must supply your name and address, by email or letter, at least 24 hours beforehand. You must speak as an individual, not as a representative of any organisation. It would be a good idea to supply the text of what you want to say before the meeting – and if you have the time, try to send printed copies (20), including your name and address.
Good luck!

Thanks!

Yours,

Stop Bristol Airport Expansion
