Saturday 8 August   3-7pm, Free

An afternoon of eco friendly performance and salad, surrounded by the
trees and plants of the Cube’s own little tree garden.

On this day, we are planning a barbecue in celebration of a first season
of Free Cube talks this year at the Cube Cinema.

During this, we will perform the 1962 Fluxus performance piece by
Alison Knowles – where a salad is prepared artistically with amplified
chopping sounds and served spectacularly, with musical accompaniment,
to an audience for free.

Please bring salad and BBQ ingredients to share, especially if you’ve grown it
yourself. Ingredients in by 4pm please. Performance and Salad serving at 6pm.

So this is entirely participative: we are relying on contributions and
culinary advice from people for this to be a success, and it could be
a good way for Grofun to meet other groups with similar objectives or
interested people around Bristol. We are seeking various materials (on
loan for the day if possible) to help keep contributions in and to
prepare the salad, as well as interesting ingredients or ideas for the
salad itself.

As well as this, a call has gone out on Bristol Community FM for
people interested in the performance side of things: musical
accompaniment and audiovisual effects and filters to be applied
directly to the sound of the salad being prepared (and we have already
had some response to this).

We are open to any contribution that you feel Grofun can easily make,
knowing that Saturdays are a day in which you might be working at the
allotment. We can’t offer money in return for your contributions of
course, but we can offer space inside the Cube for
stalls and samples of food etc, or if you wanted to speak, show a
film, or do a talk during the day in the auditorium.

We are hoping to submit a list of contributors/partners this Friday
for a feature in the Venue listing all contributors, and to put out a
call mentioning groups we might work with on our mailing list which
has many thousands of members. You will also have the chance to mix at
the barbecue that evening, with the other groups and individuals we
are inviting from around Bristol.

I really hope we can count on you for a contribution or presence of
any kind. As I said, we will be contacting Venue next Friday, and hope
to have a preliminary list of contributors by then so please RSVP if
you will be around, and I’ll be happy to discuss more details by
phone or email if you have any questions.
