Talks Series: How Contemporary Art Works: a beginner’s guide to understanding art

KWMC is hosting a series of 3 talks exploring contemporary art.

Context (Monday 15 March 2010, 7.30pm, KWMC, Free)

Artworks gain meaning or environmental value based on their context. Three speakers discuss art in context. Chaired by David Drake with Rod Dickinson and Zoe Shearman.

Simulation (Monday 22 March 2010, 7.30pm, KWMC, Free)

In contemporary art, technical words can confuse, but is ‘simulation’ really that difficult to understand? Speakers will discuss copying, memetics, Baudrilliard and Disney. Chaired by Tracey Warr with Joe Magee.

Intervention (Monday 29 March 2010, 7.30pm, KWMC, Free)
A buzz word of art-making over the last ten years, but what is intervention and who does it? Three speakers discuss why they intervene or not. Chaired by Richard Layzell with Kayle Brandon and Toby Huddlestone.
