Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Networks,

We have great pleasure in inviting you to “‘Gathering Hopeful
Narratives of Sustainability”‘, a University of Bristol Research
Event

to be held on Wednesday 10th November, from 10am – 4.30pm.

The aim of this workshop is to begin to generate, collate, and
amplify

hopeful, optimistic, and inspiring stories of existing and emerging
work for sustainability.

Our broader aim is to challenge and move beyond current narratives of
sustainability, which are dominated by a focus on technological
solutions and the business case, or alternatively limited by ”gloom

and doom”

thinking and the perceived need for self-sacrifice and martyrdom
amongst agents of change.

A further aim is to begin to develop a research agenda, drawing on
the

potential of rich and innovative qualitative and action research
methods to engender and support transformative work for

sustainability.

This workshop will bring together academics, business, policy makers,
NGOs and community members, in an effort to promote collaboration and
partnership. Our aim is to pursue research funding to further our
joint agenda.

The event is fully funded by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law.
Participation is free of charge, though places are limited and will
be

allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please see the attached flyer for further information, and please
feel

free to distribute to your networks.

Warm regards,

Patricia Gaya Wicks, Mark Hall, Alex Marsh, Mary Phillips, Sue
Porter,

and Ann Rippin

On behalf of ARCIO (Action Research and Critical Inquiry in
Organisations
